Privacy Policy
Last updated July 1, 2026. This policy explains what data Slate, Inc. collects when you use the Slate AI hiring screener, why we collect it, and how we protect it.
Who We Are
Slate, Inc. is a Delaware C-corporation with its principal place of business at 115 Broadway, Suite 1602, New York, NY 10006, United States. We operate the Slate AI hiring screener at slatescreening.com (the “Service”). Throughout this policy, “Slate,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to Slate, Inc.
Slate serves business customers worldwide. Our servers and primary operations are located in the United States.
Information We Collect
Account and contact data
When you create an account, we collect the information you provide directly: your name, work email address, company name, and, when you subscribe to a paid plan, billing details processed through our payment processor. We do not store full payment card numbers on Slate systems.
Role and application data
The core function of Slate is to read job applications against a defined role. To use the Service, customers submit job descriptions, role criteria, and candidate application materials, including resumes, cover letters, and any structured fields the candidate completed. We process this data to produce a structured, evidence-based screening read for each applicant.
We do not require, and we ask that customers do not submit, special categories of personal data (such as health information, racial or ethnic origin, religion, sexual orientation, or biometric data) that are not directly and lawfully relevant to the role. The screening read is designed to surface job-relevant evidence only, and the model is explicitly instructed to disregard protected characteristics.
Usage and diagnostic data
We collect information about how you interact with the Service, including pages visited, features used, session duration, and error reports. This helps us operate the product reliably and identify areas for improvement.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies for authentication, session management, security, and limited analytics. Our Cookie Policy describes each category and how to manage your preferences.
How We Use Your Data
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide the Service, including producing structured, evidence-based screening reads for each application submitted to a role
- Operate, maintain, and improve the product and its underlying infrastructure
- Send transactional communications, including account confirmations, billing receipts, and security alerts, and, where you have opted in, product updates
- Handle billing, payments, and subscription management
- Respond to support requests and resolve disputes
- Detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents
- Comply with applicable laws and legal obligations
AI and Model Providers
Slate is model-agnostic. To produce a screening read, the Service transmits application and role data to one or more third-party AI model providers via their published APIs. This transmission is a necessary part of generating the read.
Application data and screening reads are not used to train AI models, whether our own or those of our providers. Data is sent to model providers solely to generate the read for the specific request, under their API terms of service. We select providers whose API terms prohibit using submitted data for model training, and we review those terms as part of our vendor onboarding and periodic audit process.
If you have questions about which model providers may process a given application, contact privacy@slatescreening.com.
Applicant Data: Controller and Processor
When a customer submits job application data to Slate, the customer is the data controller for that applicant data. Slate acts as a data processor, handling the data only on the customer’s instructions and for the purposes set out in our Data Processing Agreement.
Applicants who wish to access, correct, or delete their personal data should direct those requests to the hiring organization that collected their application. Slate will cooperate with a customer’s response to an applicant data request as required by our Data Processing Agreement.
Customers are responsible for giving applicants any notice, and obtaining any consent, required by applicable employment and data protection law in their jurisdiction before submitting application data to the Service.
Data Sharing and Sub-processors
We do not sell personal data. We do not share personal data for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share data only with:
- AI model providers, to generate screening reads as described above
- Cloud infrastructure providers, which host and run the Service on our behalf
- Payment processors, to handle billing and subscription management
- Analytics and error-tracking providers, using limited, pseudonymous data to help us identify and fix product issues
- Legal and regulatory authorities, when disclosure is required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of Slate, its customers, and applicants
A current list of sub-processors is available on request at privacy@slatescreening.com.
Data Retention and Deletion
We retain account data for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward to satisfy legal, tax, and audit obligations. Application data and screening reads are retained for the period you configure in your account settings, or until you request deletion.
You can delete individual applications, entire roles, or your full account from within the product at any time. Deleted data is removed from our production systems promptly and purged from backups within 30 days. Certain records may be retained for longer periods where required by applicable law.
Security
We implement industry-standard security controls, including TLS 1.2 or later for data in transit, encryption at rest, role-based access controls, and routine security reviews. Our Security page describes our practices in more detail, including how to report a vulnerability responsibly. For security-specific questions, contact security@slatescreening.com.
No system is perfectly secure. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password for your Slate account and to keep your credentials confidential.
International Data Transfers
Slate’s primary infrastructure is located in the United States. If you are based outside the US, your data is transferred to and processed in the United States. Where required by applicable law, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers, including the Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission for transfers from the European Economic Area, Switzerland, or the United Kingdom.
Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights in relation to personal data held by Slate as controller (primarily your account data):
- Access. Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction. Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Deletion. Request that we delete your personal data, subject to lawful exceptions.
- Portability. Receive your data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
- Restriction and objection. Ask us to restrict certain processing, or object to processing based on legitimate interests, in circumstances where applicable law permits this.
Residents of California have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), including the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it, the right to delete, the right to correct, and the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
To exercise any of these rights, contact privacy@slatescreening.com. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. For applicant data where Slate acts as a processor, please contact the hiring organization that collected your application.
Children
Slate is a business product designed for companies and hiring professionals. It is not directed at individuals under 16 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe we have inadvertently received data relating to a child, contact us at privacy@slatescreening.com and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the Service evolves or as legal requirements change. When we make material changes, we will notify account holders by email and update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after a revised policy takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
